One comment to anyone installing Ubuntu right now -

Make sure you get the server kernel, the default
(standard) kernel is compiled with some unfortunate
options for the new scheduler - basically anything
running as root will be prioritised over anything
else (renicing it won't have an effect).

The classic example would be a backup running as
root (or your package manager updating etc.)

Fix has been accepted, but I'm not sure if it's
made it's way into the repositories yet.

(BTW, This is my first post for those who don't know me)
