Sorry to come late into this.... but Mediawiki search is actually OK... except has to be more than three letters (mysql limitation)- not great for 90% of computing acronyms! Throw in the FCK editor plugin (if you can call it that) and two hours later you have WYSIWYG (ah, that's a nice long acronym) for non geekers (yes, you can turn it off) Within 18 months we have 350+ detailed pages with surprisingly minimal effort.
