Hi Tom, > a. The best validation method. you can use the built in rules, write your own or use a combination thereof. http://book.cakephp.org/view/125/data-validation > b. The best group based authorisation system. I've not found the time to get into the cakephp Auth component yet, though that and ACL are high on my list - if you just want a simple auth system tied to the group a user belongs to, check out: http://bakery.cakephp.org/articles/view/obauth-component-tutorial I've used this on a number of projects, it's basic, but might fit your needs. If you need more then look into cake's Auth+ACL components: http://lemoncake.wordpress.com/2007/07/19/using-authcomponent-and-acl-in-cakephp-12/ http://lemoncake.wordpress.com/2007/07/19/acl-with-groups/ http://lemoncake.wordpress.com/2007/07/15/using-aclbehavior-in-cakephp-12/ or check out this (not used but is getting good responses on the google group): http://conseil-recherche-innovation.net/authake happy baking! jon -- jon bennett w: http://www.jben.net/ iChat (AIM): jbendotnet Skype: jon-bennett
