Hi all Thanks for all the comments they are very helpful, although I must admit although 2d animation is still being used and some use can be gained from 2d avatars there is still a desire for 3d human representation to provoke empathy and emotional attachment. I am quite happily making a living out of it. Why are the majority of games striving for 3d realism? What does second life offer that a text based notice board cant? In answer to Ben's '3D for the Web and why it hasnt taken off' Maybe you should consider that technology has only come to the place recently (the last 5 years) where good 3d content can be delivered across broadband. Let alone the skills needed to produce the content. Give it another couple of years and who knows the whole web may be a 3d walk in the park where the journey once again becomes part of the experience rather than a hindrance. I am dead set to move forward in my quest for improving the online 3d representation of human avatars but as I am starting my journey I could do with some advice and guidance as to where to place my research and energy. The final product will need to be proprietary so I feel I should steer away from pre-packed solutions (especially with big licensing fees that I could spend on research and development for myself) I am still caught in the question as to what language to work with, Java 3D, WPF or C#. I seem to be edging towards java3d for cross platform and relative ease of access but am still unsure about WPF and C# and the means of delivering these via the web. Can any one enlighten me a bit? Also can anyone recommend any books which will help me along? Cheers Adrian
