It's not just non-3G phones; apparently Three are the only network to
disable SIMs as soon as you put a Three SIM into a non-Three phone.

I was told this by a Phones4U salesman when we enquired about buying
their cheapest PAYG phone to put Mrs B's SIM in, as her Nokia 6280's
battery lasts about 10 minutes these days :(

He offered to buy her out of her Three contract, but that would have
meant changing network, min cost £25/month, when she's currently only
paying £15.
