This format works really well , the Perlmongers call it lightening
talks. You get 5 minutes to present an idea , people can then grab
you later and talk about further details . Most people can talk for
5 minutes and most audiences can stay focussed for about that long
too.

If done as a bit of a warm-up for the main speaker it can increase
the effectiveness of the night and warm up the crowd.
