I think it's the same (or similar) panel as the one I just got, as
most of these vendors apparently use Chi Mei panels... Mine's a LG
Flatron L226WT for £192 incl. at Novatech.

Lovely piece of kit, but I have started to get a little annoyed by the
dither patterns that appear on flat areas of colour.

As far as I can tell, all of these cheap LCDs are actually only 6 bits
per subpixel, rather than the expected 8. "16 million colours" is
simulated by doing a hardware dither (2x2 ordered). It's barely
noticeable as the pixels are fairly small, but now I have noticed it,
it bugs me... not enough to spend more on a better one, though.

I doubt most people would notice it, and I can't say it interferes
with my work, but designers and suchlike may be more sensitive to this
problem.

I'm also not sure how prevalent this is... I certainly never noticed
it on my old one (an LG Flatron L1730B that packed up all of a sudden
on Friday evening), but then again, that one was quite pricey for its
time, so it might have been a "true 8-bit" panel.

Here's a picture, although it doesn't really do it justice.
