I've used Slicehost and Memset's virtual servers. Preference would be memset as, amongst other things, support is excellent (although, I've had no realy issues with Slicehost). Cheap as chips as well (furthermore if you decide to upgrade to dedi they can move your virtual server image for you). Many people recommend http://www.bytemark.co.uk/ but I have not tried them. I'm 100% happy with virtual servers and would use them any day in pref to a shared solution - I don't like to have all eggs in one basket!
