Hi Simon,

May not be quite what you need but can highly recommend Slicehost for a
virtual box... starts from about a tenner a month but you chose the distro
and have full root access... Plus their DNS service is worth the money in
itself for me, can enter DNS records for domains you don't even host with
them, it does rare tricks like supporting wildcards and it's been very
reliable...

Be really careful with leaving 1&1 - they carried on trying to claim their
fees from my debit card for nearly a year after I stopped using them - had
to get a new card number issued in the end as they were so shocking at
stopping the attempts and refunding the few extra months get did get away
with...
