Another bonus to having the right or close to the right change is that it takes much less time to load 10 customers on a bus with the right money, than it does to load the same customers who need a variety of change and discussion / moaning / argument about the lack of change. Also, when people get on the bus with notes, it uses up the small change drivers would have had available to give those with almost the right money their change, making it worse for everyone. As if it isn't bad enough that other road users hate you, many time they wont let you pull out, bosses moan, customers moan and shout abuse etc, given unrealistic schedules to keep to despite roadworks, rush hour and more - really it is not a job for the faint hearted, you need the patience of a saint to put up with that much abuse each day. Yes it's a public service, but the people who drive them are human too :) (well most of them - not sure about Bristol - theres some odd looking drivers I have seen!) When you next hear someone moaning about the bus being late - there could be a variety of reasons - most likely to include those passengers expecting a full banking service to be made available for them from the bus drivers own wages. The answer is simple - have the right money - Et voila - buses might just run closer to schedule. (unless of course its me driving! ;-) cos I just didn't care enough about minor details like that back then. There's only so many fools a girl can suffer per day - and I was only 20 at the time in my defence - that Not In Service sign, parked up out of sight with a coffee was a welcomed break from the madness.)
