Well I can speak only as an ex bus driver myself - but change was a big issue. Out of the pittance paid as salary (back then - and it was > 14 yrs ago since I last worked as a bus driver), you have to provide your own float out of your own money. Doesnt matter how much float you have, you always dread the people getting on the bus with notes rather than coins, because it uses up the float really quickly. It is inconsiderate to expect a bus driver to provide change out of a note for a small fare. That said, I was driving in Weymouth rather than Bristol - but the job and customer types are pretty much standard countrywide. Though maybe in Weymouth maybe there is a lower iq amongst holiday makers - I can remember driving in the summer in Weymouth, where you would get stuck in horrendous traffic on the promenade, people would be standing at the bus stop further down, can see the bus in the traffic - then when you get to the bus stop you get an indignant "youre late!????" Not known for my tact and diplomacy, I replied "hmmm yea no sh*t Sherlock - you see those thick black lines down the side of the bus? Thats where they cut the f***ing wings off! Now I have to sit in the traffic the same as everyone else!" Oh my other fav would be driving a single decker bus, already packed with no seats and the last passenger sat on my shoulder, to be forced to stop by someone who jumps out in the road waving an arm. Open the door, and person says "any more room driver?" I reply "yep plenty of room upstairs!" I got sacked shortly after - cant imagine why - maybe me ability to tolerate fools was too low. Think it may also have been the over-use of the Not In Service sign :) That was a cracker! Seriously though, its a sh*t job and someone has to do it. Not made any easier by stroppy customers. So make a bus drivers day, have the right change! ;-) Sam Beyond Metrix Ltd ~ evolving business online ~ www.beyondmetrix.com Usability, Accessibility, Validation, Best Practice, SEO and online marketing. What do you suggest o wise one ? Pay with something approaching the correct change when you get on the bus. That would make it better for everyone, rather than "only got a £20 note, sorry" - you were getting on the bus, it isn't hard to make sure you have some change - thoughtless idiot using up all the change. -- Andy Gale -- underscore_ list info/archive -> http://www.under-score.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/underscore
