Multiple desktops might be a way forward. I've not found anything
stable for Vista yet but on XP there was a very neat power toy that
did this well that definitely helped my productivity.

screen* 1 for dev environemnt, screen 2 for email & docs, 3 for
terminals etc etc.

If you find something that works with Vista then please let me know

(and yes I know this comes as standard in OS X and Gnome/KDE)

p.s. phpmyadmin? yuck. Try something like the SQLyog community edition.
