We've used the polish club for our christmas bash here at Films for a few years
now. It's what I would call a 'blank palette' upon which you can paint your own
occasion. It's a bit bare-bones and village hall, but we just take a load of
decorations down there and spiffy it up a bit.

You can easily fit a disco or live band in (they have a stage) and they also
have a projector if you want to get all video-dj.

I don't think fancy dress would faze them in the slightest.

The bar, as mentioned, does a lot of vodka; they don't have any real ale (there
might be fizzy John Smiths on draft), but they do have the polish rocket fuel
known as 'Zwieck' (or somesuch; can't spell it, can't say it :-) ). This
bottled beer is usually ice cold, and most certainly does the trick quite
efficiently, if you know what I mean. Prices are normal, straying towards cheap.

Downsides? The gents is at the bottom of the stairs by the main door, and they
can whiff a bit, but for the price, the size, and the 'not getting ripped off by
the bar', you don't really notice. The other thing is that some of our more
'meedja' members of staff feel it is not in keeping with their station as
craftspeople working on quality television entertainment, but then that's a self
selection mechanism and they're boring anyway :-) ie, if you've got some
friends who fancy themselves a bit posh, they won't like it at all.

PS: the other random thing is that the club, even when rented out, is still open
to members. In days gone past, this meant a couple of old chaps sat at the end
of the bar; in recent years, a few more younger and livelier lads have turned
up, but they're all well behaved.

Hope that helps...

Mike
