Ah, that was your mistake.

Once you've been ticked off the missing list, then the best plan is to
wait for the all-clear in the pub, preferably a short drive away, and
unknown to the organisers.

We did this on my placement - the entire IT department was in the pub
for most of the afternoon until somebody found us.
