What's your budget? What are you used to? Does it need to be mobile?
Who will be supporting it?

As has been previously discussed to death all OS's are pants. Then the
fact that Macs now being intel based means that with bootcamp or using
Parallels/VM Ware one can run both leading OS's on them makes them a
compelling option, though the hardware is too expensive IMO.

For desktops I'd go for top end Dell XPS kit and laptops IBM/Lenovo,
depends upon your requirements, though.
