It's often better to speed the text up if possible because users often complain that these scrolling text things are rather slow. Also what works well is having 2 lines scroll independently (better in opposite directions), as again, users often say they like the choice of one or more things to read (see Blomberg news!) It's often easier to display the text quite small to squeeze things in.
