I found setting a "buy it now" option helped a lot. Costs a little  
more than a standard listing but as the buy it now system only works  
with paypal and the user has to pay for it there and then it weeds  
out any scammers.

Just search for recently closed auctions of the item you're about to  
sell to get an idea of how much you ought to set the price at...
