Thanks for the responses, much appreicated.

I'm the same for pure-play eCommerce and will only create a profile
withn a site that I trust.

What about a more B2B service based offering that does need a 'client'
area for example to discuss the project that's being sold and to
download files etc? The feeling here is to have the reg/order form
combined with an "already a customer?" link right at the top.
