Short commute, above market rate salary, flexi-time, 'toy' budget,
some sort of bonus when any quotes I wrote became actual business,
ditto working out of hours to deliver work on time.

I've been self employed for 5 years but have never really considered
myself a freelancer, though at times when I've had not staff I guess I
have been. If I have my own way I'll being doing it for the next 5
years too, economy permitting.
