I've had good, though slow at times (mentally!), results with PixLib http://osflash.org/projects/pixlib . (the same people are now building an AS3 framework called LowRa) There's another framework which is currently being ported over to AS3 called 'Gugga', though this appears to be more geared towards flash sites than flash apps.
