Personal value precedes network value:

In other words, the immediate value of these things is "bookmark once,
available anywhere" i.e. I find something cool at work, bookmark it
with del.icio.us, then it's available at home or anywhere else with a
net connection.

The Network Value comes later - you discover other stuff that people
bookmark, based on bookmarking the same stuff as you or by subscribing
to their feeds.
