Hi guys,

Thanks for coming back to me on this one.

Apps are run on the desktops I think - certainly Firefox is and the
database we use (Microdec RPM) has a client that is installed on the
client PCs, but has a Sybase DB running on the server that I presume
they talk to. Its email that is the worst. I very much doubt it is a
full thin client setup.

We don't use Photoshop regularly - just putting faces on evil pictures
on a Friday afternoon. We all use Outlook, Word, Messenger and the
Microdec RPM pretty heavily though.

The network all runs off one massive switch next to the server, with
just one little hub to split a connection where there are too many users
for the wall port, although I think this got ditched in the last desk
shuffle.

My instinct would be that the server isn't powerful enough to handle all
this, but I have no experience of how much a server will cope with.
Looking at the specs, the largest amount of RAM that these things
shipped with was 2GB, but I doubt they bought the top of the range. It's
far more likely that we got the 512MB one - and that is only 333MHz DDR1
RAM.

What do you reckon?

Ta,

Ben
