Oh, certainly... In fact, the overwhelming public reaction of "£400k  
for drawing a logo?!?" is very naive.  I think it's cheap for the  
necessary work involved in getting a brand based on that thing put  
together, checked, chosen, tested, documented, approved, protected, etc.

My point was that Chris is right that the £400k was for a lot more  
work than just coming up with a logo, BUT that I don't think that  
stops just the logo coming-up-with bit from being a more  
participatory process, which this clearly wasn't.

The alternative is what happened yesterday when Seb Coe leaped around  
on stage, while everyone recoiled from the jagged mess, thinking  
"you're actually SERIOUS?!"  I mean, they can't seriously be  
_surprised_ by this backlash, right?
