I know this doesn't help but I frequently have the same problem because i'm
too spoilt by my apple powerbook's ability to deal with external monitors,
and notice when there isn't one, therefore I frequently make the mistake of
unplugging my windows laptop from it's secondary monitor and taking it home
to find I can't use photoshop until I take it back to the office and plug it
back into the monitor.

... so in summary i'd like to know the answer to this one too..
