Threes's Skype service doesn't work like classic Skype! IN fact the part of the call that mobile is made as a normal circuit switched calls that connects you to a Skype gateway inside the three network, Only from that gateway is the call then sent over the classic Skype IP system. The app on your handset manages all this and when you click to call a contact it sends some signalling to the gateway over a data channel to say that user x is calling person y then it makes a call to the gateway. Its actually very clever approach, mobile networks were built to carry voice and do so very efficiently therefore it makes no sense to take a voice call and convert in it into to data pas via a data overlay to a voice network! Therefore you need to be careful what you are trying to do with the 3 skypephone, the skype function won't work on any other network, and most probably it won't work with another SIM as the gateway will need to be provisioned with your mobile number. Having said that its a very nice little offer!
