Yo underscore,
I've just put out a message to all our clients about the new law happening
on Sunday 1st Oct. Just in case you guys aren't aware, you may want to
check out my blog post on it:
http://jobs.chinwag.com/blog/2006/09/26/29/
Basically stuff like:
* Remove date of births from your application forms, and from any candidate
database you have
* Don't ask for dates such as when someone was at school, or anything that
would mean you can suss out their age
* Don't ask for GCSE results - as this differentiates between a GCSE
generation, and an O Level generation
* Do not ask for a specific number of years' experience in job adverts, ask
for demonstrable skills instead e.g. "5 years sales experience" becomes
"demonstrable experience at selling at all levels, sales projection and
forecasting", and all the skills you want for the role, rather than the
amount of time in that role
* Avoid language such as "young", "mature", "energetic" (I kid you not), as
this is classed as indirect discrimination
* Don't ask anything age-related in interview, not even things such as,
"Would you mind managing older people?"
Cheers, your not-so-local recruitment knowledge base..
Have great weekends!
