Trouble is that if you buy your Mum one, you'll want one too. It has bass reflex port at back and even though mono sounds really, *really* good. I paid over a ton more than that 2 years ago but it was worth every penny: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-RD6-Radio/dp/B0001XLRQM If you can splash out that bit more then it's worth it. Build quality is superb too. I think the newer one has a pause feature which I could do with most Saturday evenings when the score draws come out and invariably the children/wife/phone interrupt. I also have this one http://www.simplyradios.com/devo.htm Wind up but also rechargeable which good for taking outside when gardening etc. Note 1min of winding gives 1hr FM but only 6 mins of DAB. It's a good radio but I would imagine the sound quality is similar to the other cheaper ones out there which is to say a bit flat, OK it's clear, but the RD6 blows it out of the water. hth -- db
