More interestingly I would like to play around with the prescence
features on newer phones and networks. Not sure what the current state
is, but would be great if the monitoring system could actually interact
with an IM client on the phone. ie the monitoring system *knows* that
it can reach my phone. It might also know if my phone is on silent or
not, if I am in a meeting etc.

Just today there was a Slashdot article about a phone coming out with
GPS built in:

http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/10/31/2319236&from=rss

And I know there are various services out there for locating phones
based on GSM cell or whatever. Would be handy if the monitoring system
could be smart enough to know who is nearest in case of a problem, or
'Matt looks like he is at home, I know he has connectivity there, I'll
ring his home number as that is louder than his mobile'.

And WHY doesn't any ^%$£^ phone from any manufacturer allow you to have
different SMS tones for different senders?! I've wanted this feature
for the past 10 years and I've never seen a single phone that can do it.
Considering how many kids SMS their friends all the time, you would
have thought customising SMS tones per sender would be a goldmine.
