Hi Roger

I'd use Flash to handle the load as it's easy to set up and you can 
control the flash movies while the loading is going on.

load the first one and play it then load the other, off stage or 
somewhere discrete then when it's loaded, at a suitable point in the 
first animation swap over the clips

it might depend on the size and types of the clips but I do a lot of off

stage loading of images while one is being shown and don't have any 
probs with it
