I think I might've read somewhere that Apple have applied for a
patent on a "Minority Report"-style gesture recognition where the
built-in iSight camera on MacBooks can be used to recognise the tips
of the fingers (ie. without LED-tipped gloves). Maybe useful for
scrubbing in FCP, iMovie, etc.
Might be useful for this 3D UI too, although I bet it's tiring and
RSI-inducing.
I'd say that Mickey Mouse in Fantasia has prior-art, with that whole
wand-waving tidying thing.
I tend to think that these kind of things are fairly annoying: I
like my computer keeping things nice and ordered in a grid for me so
I can use keyboard shortcuts for filing. I wish my real-life desk
would have the same functionality.
