4.  Scrap CSS image replacement altogether, loosing all the headaches
instantly, and simply use inline images with "alt" text as your link
content.

Seriously, I'm not being a troll; I haven't legitimately identified a use
for CSS Image Replacement over inline images for years now.  And, if we're
being honest, ever (with the benefit of hindsight).
