Learning 3D Studio, Lightwave or Maya should stand you in good stead
regardless of what you want to do. Of the three, 3DS is the easiest to
learn I find, but it's toolset wasn't as good as the other two -
particularly Maya - last time I used it properly (some 3-4 years ago now).
3D Studio also has the most user-friendly interface.
