I'm normally on the 7.38 (is that right) from Oldfield Park
(henceforth known as 'The OP') and revel in the wonder that is a
train^H^H item of public transport that's not run by First Group (it's
a South West Train and is smart and clean, rather than dirty, old and
air-con-less).
Bitter? Moi? Wait 'til the new "improved" timetable in December. I may
join Iwein and get my bike out! Or more likely I'll grit my teeth and
be a wuss in the warm, if overcrowded, train.
Now that First own the local and InterCity franchises, it makes
economic sense for them to run down the local services so that they
don't get in the way of the fast ones; the new timetable seems to
indicate this result, but First (predictably) deny any malintent.
Grrr.
