[_] backup of remote mysql db

i'm trying to do a backup of a remote mysql database directly to my mac, as
I don't have shell access to the machine where the database is and there
isn't enough disk space to dump it to that machine anyway. I've been trying
to use cocoamysql (0.5), but it always hangs about halfway through.

I have done it in the past on the same database using a windows gui mysql
client called mysql front.

I have mysql installed on the mac, can anyone tell me how to do it via
command line / script, or some other reliable backup app? I've tried
googling, but can't find anything clear enough to follow confidently. The
database is about 40mb, and i'm on broadband. I don't want to accidently
dump it to the remote machine because I fear this might cause a lock-up and
upset 300 grumpy middle-aged skateboarders!
