This thing'll cost you around 100 quid, up front, every few years, plus
the slice of your taxes that could be better spent on other things. So,
for it to be worth your while, you need to derive at least 100 quid's
worth of benefit*. If you can explain how you're going to do that,
that's at least a data point in favour of the card. Otherwise, it
doesn't matter whether it's a privacy invasion or not - it's just not
worth it.
