Urgh.. I think that would be a drawback.

I think it's far nicer that I *know* that my new PS2 will run all PS2 
games perfectly well, and that my colleague (who was a PS2 early 
adopter) has the same luxury.

Last thing I want to do is spend time trying to get some stupid drivers 
to install, when I could just be playing the game.   Games consoles are 
for playing games, not DIY.  If I want to waste time messing about with 
computer equipment, I'll pop into work.
