[_] PC Anywhere 10 - Insidious Marketing

Hi All,

Here's something interesting, and it's really narked me!

I was looking for graphics drivers on the Matrox site (I think this is
immaterial), when I clicked on a link to the driver I wanted.
The next thing I new I was looking at a PCA 10 advert for XP on my local
drive????
Has anyone else using PCA10 experienced this? What's the legal standpoint on
this? My view is that my PC is personal to me (it's in the name 'Personal
Computer'). Therefore while I am logged on (therefore uniquely identified) I
would be required to give my explicit consent (Data Protection Act) to
receive marketing information from Symantec, also there are no unsubscribe
instructions or facility with this page.

Could I be right in thinking that this file has been placed there by the
Symantec Liveupdate feature? If so, how did they obtain consent to market
via this means, also could this be classed as 'illegal access' to my PC?

If anyone wants a copy of the file in question which sits in
C:\WINNT\Temp\pca10.htm (those of you using PCA10 that have run Liveupdate
recently may want to check this out, I've had PCA10 installed for about 8
months). I will send it off list so we don't all get miffed with spurios
HTML.
