There are some snakes out there........

Was bitten once - even worse, the registration accepted and then the 
following week an EMail saying that I didn't own the .com

On checking found I had been a victim, so quickly bought .net and 
.org and stuffed the site on them.  Still waiting for the .com

Following that experience the cure was putting together an 
independent domain lookup facility using the various official 
registration points of info.  Have not experienced the problem 
again.........

Try to avoid using a domain name registry company to search for 
available names.
